This is a pleather type tassel. Simplistic In design and not all that pliable. It's not something you want to keep in a hot car because the heat or direct sun will cause degradation of the vinyl material. I am using this tassel on my mailbox key because I'm notorious for NOT taking my key out of the lock. This product had no odor upon opening the package. If you put your nose in the tassels you may smell a faint odor that you wouldn't otherwise notice. This is the first pleather type tassel I have ever owned and let me tell you why I like it. I like the fact that I can wipe it down and clean versus a thread type tassel you cannot. Second, my cat will not be attracted to this type of tassel because the leather is thick and rigid. Since it has no fluid motion it is not a cat attractant. This tassel can handle misuse and survive. Purely this was a product of function for me. It came with a side benefit that it's not offensive to look at. Feels good in my hand. It definitely put class in my mailbox key ring. To the manufacturer, a job well done. I don't have a downside to talk about. The tassels are not free-flowing Right now they are rigid in their uniformity. Maybe over time they'll soften up, I don't care one way or the other. At least if I leave my keys out in the rain in the lock it can withstand the water accident. I have rubbed on this product and there's been no transfer of dye onto my hands. I would definitely buy another one should the need arise.
